Who we are
The Books Come Alive app (the "App") and the Books Come Alive website (the "Website") are owned and operated by Erin Gerald Affiliates, LLC ("Erin Gerald Affiliates," "we," "us" or "our"). Together, we call the App and the Website the "Services." Erin Gerald Affiliates, LLC is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
This policy applies only to the Services. It does not cover Apple's App Store, Apple's Sign in with Apple service, or other third-party services, which have their own privacy policies.
Information we handle
Books Come Alive is designed to work with as little personal information as possible. Most of what you enter stays on your iPhone Duo.
Information stored only on your device
The following information is saved in the App's storage on your device. It is not sent to us, and we cannot see it:
- Sign in with Apple details. When you sign in, Apple gives the App a unique account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and an email address (which can be an Apple private relay address). You decide what to share on Apple's sign-in screen.
- Your child's profile. The first name or nickname you enter for your child, their age group, and the story interests you pick (for example, Animals or Friendship). The App uses these to greet your child by name and to arrange your bookshelf.
- Your library and reading activity. The books and soundtracks you have, which books are new, in progress or finished, how far you've read, and your bookmarks.
- App settings and preferences.
Information handled by our subscription provider
We use RevenueCat, Inc. ("RevenueCat") to manage subscriptions, free trials and in-app purchases. To confirm what you've bought and unlock it, the App sends RevenueCat:
- a randomly generated, anonymous app user ID
- your purchase and subscription history, including Apple transaction receipts, product IDs, prices, currency and trial status
- basic device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, region, and the IP address used to connect
We do not send RevenueCat your name, your email address, your child's name, your child's age, or your reading activity. We can see subscription records in RevenueCat's dashboard to provide support and understand how many people subscribe, renew or cancel. RevenueCat's handling of this information is described in the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Information handled by Apple
Apple processes your payments, subscriptions, refunds and Sign in with Apple account. We do not receive your payment card number or billing address. Apple may also share aggregated, de-identified statistics with developers, such as App Store downloads and crash reports from users who have chosen to share analytics with developers. Apple's practices are covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
Information you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message, and anything you choose to include. We use it only to respond to you.
Read-along and your microphone
To highlight words and move the animations along as you read aloud, the App asks for permission to use your iPhone's microphone and speech recognition. You can say no or turn it off at any time in your iPhone's Settings. If you do, the parts of the App that follow your voice will not work.
When you allow it, your voice is processed on your device, in real time, only to match what you're saying to the words on the page. The App does not record or save your voice, and does not send audio to us or to any third party.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- provide the App, including your bookshelf, personalized greetings, bookmarks and read-along features
- process and confirm subscriptions, free trials and purchases, and restore purchases on a new device
- respond to your questions and support requests
- understand, in aggregate, how subscriptions are performing so we can improve the App
- keep the Services secure, prevent fraud, and comply with the law
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you or your child.
Children's privacy
Books Come Alive is made for parents and caregivers to use with their children. Accounts are for adults only, and purchases must be made by an adult.
- Your child's name, age group and story interests are entered by you, the parent or caregiver, and stay on your device. We do not collect them.
- Children are meant to watch the Kid Cue screen while an adult reads. The App is not designed for children to use on their own, and children cannot make purchases through it.
- There are no ads, no third-party advertising tools, and no tracking in the App.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us at info@eringerald.com and we will delete it promptly.
Keeping and deleting data
- On-device data stays on your device until you delete your account in the App (Settings → Delete Account) or delete the App. Either action removes your profile, your child's profile and your reading history from the device.
- Subscription records held by RevenueCat are kept while your account is active. When you delete your account in the App, we ask RevenueCat to delete the records linked to your anonymous app user ID. We may keep limited transaction records for as long as tax, accounting or other laws require.
- Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to help you, and then for a reasonable period for our records, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription. Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so cancel in your iPhone's Settings under your name, then Subscriptions. To stop using Sign in with Apple for Books Come Alive, go to Settings, then your name, then Sign-In & Security, then Sign in with Apple.
Security
Information stored by the App is kept in the App's private storage on your device, which is protected by iOS security features and your device passcode. Information sent to RevenueCat travels over encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information we handle. Keeping your device locked with a passcode is the best way to protect the information stored on it.
Your rights and choices
- See or change your information. You can view and edit your child's profile and story interests in the App at any time.
- Delete your information. Delete your account from Settings in the App, or email us and we'll help.
- Microphone and speech recognition. Turn these on or off in your iPhone's Settings.
- Ask us a question or make a request. Email info@eringerald.com. We respond within 30 days, or sooner if the law requires. We may need to confirm that the request is coming from you before we act on it.
Because most information stays on your device, there may be little or nothing about you on our systems. When that's the case, we'll tell you.
U.S. state privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with a consumer privacy law), you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we hold about you and how we use and share it
- get a copy of your personal information
- correct inaccurate personal information
- delete your personal information
- opt out of the sale of personal information, sharing for targeted advertising, and certain profiling
- not be treated differently for using these rights
We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we do not use it for profiling. We also honor browser privacy signals such as Global Privacy Control. To make a request, email info@eringerald.com. You may use an authorized agent, and if we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our response.

- Legal basis. We process subscription information to perform our contract with you (providing what you paid for), and we process limited information for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the Services. The Books Come Alive website
The Website has no accounts, no advertising cookies, and no analytics or tracking tools. Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, to deliver and secure the site.
The Website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address. See the Google Privacy Policy. Links to the App Store and Google Calendar take you to those services, where their privacy policies apply.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services change, for example if we add features like syncing your library across devices. We will change the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell you in the App or on the Website before it takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent.
